2018 Flying Brick Bellarine Sunset Run

2 course records fall whilst Enterprize Tall Ship comes in 83rd in a time of 1:56:02

It was proven in 2016 & 2017 that we've found the perfect way to combine some of life's loves. Many couples ventured to the Bellarine Peninsula to spend a weekend running, eating, drinking, smiling and laughing with friends and love ones. On February 3RD 2018 you have the opportunity to run the 3rd Flying Brick Bellarine Sunset Run and discover some of life's ingredients to happiness. In 2016 it sold out with 700 entries, in 2017 we added the Walk 4 Head Space raising money for Bellarine Community Health Youth Services bringing together a combined 1200 people .

the added challenge of racing Melbourne's Tall Ship Enterprize the replica of John Pascoe Fawkner's Schooner Enterprize - the ship that sailed from Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) in 1835 with the first permanent white settlers that started what has become the City of Melbourne.

You will enjoy the thrill of the chase in 2018 with the runners being challenged to try outrun the Enterprize tall ship and it's crew of pirates over 21.8km. The Captain assures us he is very keen to catch a few scallywags and steal their treasure chests full of bling (awarded to all finishers). The Great Race will start with a shot from the Enterprize cannon as it leaves Portarlington pier, she will then sail her way parallel with the foreshore and the runners through Indented Head to St Leonards with the Melbourne skyline and the You Yangs providing a spectacular back drop as you gaze out to sea trying to work out if they are in front or not.

The challenge will not only be beating the Enterprize but all runners will need to navigate their way through the pirate aid stations on course, having to ignore the hospitality of the local community and tourists offering beverages and bbq's whilst dodging water cannons (hoses) as you are cooled off through the caravan parks. You will need to choose your hugs and high 5's wisely from 10km runners in your quest to beat the Enterprize to the turnaround at St Leonards. From here we expect it to get pretty exciting as you turn for home, runners will have an advantage through the turn around with the ship needing to take a wider berth so don't give up as sailing weather is unpredictable and you might just take back the lead.

The 4KM "Walk 4 head space" is back with $6179 raised in 2017 we are aiming to raise $10,000 in 2018 for Bellarine Community Health Youth Services. Start time 4:30pm.

Brilliant run. Loved the 21.8 km course and the sense of community. Great spacing of aid stations and well done for a having a no plastic cups policy.
Really appreciated that under 12s could do the 4 km walk/run for Head Space for free. My 4 year old and 6 year old girls were super excited to be part of this event with their dad and to get their first running medal. We will definitely be back next year.                                                                                                                                                                      Nicole Stupka
